In January of this year, working in tandem with the Egyptian Ministry, Dr. Josef Wegner and his team recently discovered another massive tomb—this one nearly 23 feet underground and comprising a decorated entryway and a series of other rooms capped by 16-foot-high mudbrick vaults. Although the king once buried in this tomb is yet to be identified, similarity in decoration and architecture with the tomb of King Seneb-Kay led our Penn Museum Egyptologists to conclude that this unnamed ruler may have been one of king Seneb-Kay’s predecessors.

This groundbreaking discovery opens a new and exciting chapter in investigating the Abydos dynasty, shedding light into a lesser-known period in Egyptian history.

This Wednesday, Dr. Wegner will be giving a talk about his team's latest findings.
