Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations today launched the first event of the Modern Egyptian Studies Forum. Alexander Kitroeff of Haverford College discussed his book The Greeks and the Making of Modern Egypt (American University in Cairo Press, 2019). Penn panelists were Dr. Heather Sharkey, NELC Professor of Modern Islamic History; Dr. Alon Tam, department graduate and current Rabin-Shvidler Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Jewish and Israel Studies, Columbia University; and Weston Bland, PhD candidate in the field of Modern Middle Eastern Literatures and Societies.
